The route sets out along the river path to Scotch Isle before climbing up to Greenwell Edge where there are splendid views of the Weardale Valley as we head towards Thistlewood and Baal Hill.  We then cross the stepping stones, cross the meadows towards the Church and back to the River Wear and Railway Station.   There are several opportunities for short cuts or return to the start, including one avoiding the climb up to Greenwell Edge.
