Killhope to Heatherycleugh and Lanehead circular

 

Important:  In the event of bad weather walks may be cancelled, changed or rescheduled for later in the same week.  Please consult the weardale.uk website from 8am on the morning of the walk to confirm the walk is going ahead.  Note we are often able to update the website the evening before.

Walk Route:  Start at Killhope Lead Mining Centre, walk west and then south round Kidd’s Dam, turn east then south past Carrick’s Hags and Blakeley Field to Heatherycleugh near Lanehead. Follow the river north to join the road at Slit Foot and back to Killhope

Start time: 10.00 am               Estimated finish: 13.00

Starting point: Car Park Killhope Lead Mining Centre. Although there is a locked gate barring the ford entrance to the mine, there is a medium size open space between the road and the river that should accommodate at least 6 cars.

Distance: 9 km (5.5 miles);

Time: 3 hours mins.

Height gain TBC metres (1079 feet).

The walk consists of footpaths, gravel, pasture and moorland.

Walks cost £1 to cover mountain rescue contribution.

Equipment for this walk: walking boots and socks, waterproofs, small snack and drink, walking poles or stick.

Dogs: Dogs are allowed on this walk but must be on a lead.

Public toilets:  TBC.  In Stanhope at the Dales centre, OS maps. Explorer 31 North Pennines.
