Stanhope via Shittlehope Burn and Crawley Edge.

Walk Route: A countryside walk round Stanhope. Starting at the car park at the Dales centre, Stanhope we walk to Newlandside Hall then on to Parson Byers, Shittlehope Burn and along Crawley Edge above the quarries before returning to the Dales centre. There is a steep climb of 80 metres after we cross the river Wear near the beginning and a steep downhill section towards the end. For those who want a flatter route there are alternatives and several return routes at various places.

Height gain 248 m (814 feet) this is achieved mainly in gradual increases apart from the first climb.
The walk consists of footpaths, pasture, woodland and moorland paths. The nearest toilets are Stanhope at the Dales Centre’

Dogs: Dogs are allowed on this walk but must be on a lead. Please note that one field contained young cattle and one farm had a small flock of geese.
