DESCRIPTION:Cowshill – Middlehope Bank circular  Tue 16 June 2026  Going ahead as planned \n£1 \nImportant:  In the event of bad weather walks may be cancelled\, changed or rescheduled for later in the same week.  Please consult the weardale.uk website from 8am on the morning of the walk to confirm the walk is going ahead.  Note we are often able to update the website the evening before. \nWalk Route: \nWalk is from the Wear Valley Trail\, a series of circular walks taking in a section of the Wear Valley Walk. \nWe park at the Cowshill Inn carpark; heading west along the A689\, do not cross the bridge in front of the Cowshill Inn\, but turn right and immediately left to park by the Inn. \nWe then walk back south east along the metalled road parallel to the A689. Turn left along a farm road to Queensbury. Just past the house keep going straight across quite boggy country to the Sedling Vein path. At the top of Middlehope Bank turn right towards Ireshopeburn\, but turn left down a track and then across country towards East Blackdene. From a junction follow the road west back to the Ireshopeburn road\, turn left and take first right back along the road to Cowshill. \nShould be about 3 hours\, 5.5 miles\, a certain amount of up and down\, but not sure about the total elevation. \nDate:  Tuesday 16th June 2026 \nStart time: 10.00 am                            Estimated finish time:  13:15 p.m. \nDistance c. 5.5 miles           Height gain: moderate \nLeader: Jamie     Contact details: 07485780121   (David) \n  \nStarting Point:  Cowshill Inn carpark. \nOS Map: North Pennines OS Explorer OL31 NY 855\,407 \nWalks cost £1 to cover costs and mountain rescue contribution. \nTerrain: Mainly quiet road\, path\, meadow and a short potentially boggy stretch. \nToilets: St John’s Chapel. \nEquipment for this walk: Walking boots and socks\, waterproofs\, small snack and drink. \nDogs: Dogs on a lead are permitted on this walk. (restrictions apply in open access areas but OK for dogs under effective control on public footpath used in this walk) \nAccompanied children under 16 and accompanied vulnerable adults are welcome. \nDisclaimer: Everyone taking part in any of our group walks does so at their own risk.  The group works on the same basis as a group of friends who go out walking together.  Walk organisers accept no risk for anyone attending any walk and will not be held responsible for any accident\, injury or loss occurring on a walk or in connection with travel to and from a walk.  None of our leaders is qualified or has first aid training but a basic first aid kit is available.  Participants must read the walk description carefully and assess whether the terrain\, distance and height gain of the walk are within their own and their guests’ capabilities and whether their equipment is suitable. \n
