DESCRIPTION:Blanchland – Baybridge Tue 2nd June 2026 – Going ahead as planned \nImportant:  In the event of bad weather walks may be cancelled\, changed or rescheduled for later in the same week.  Please consult the weardale.uk website from 8am on the morning of the walk to confirm the walk is going ahead.  Note we are often able to update the website the evening before. \nWalk Route: \nFrom Blanchland village hall car park we walk around side of hall and cross road near bridge to bring us onto the path going east beside Derwent River and follow the scenic path to Carrick’s Haugh at which point we leave the path and walk over fields and climb up to Cow Byers Farm\, passing the farm we are out onto open fields with beautiful views before dropping down through woodland to Shildon. We then follow the Pennine Journey road for a short way before turning right on the track towards Coat House Farm\, we then cross fields and head down to Baybridge and then follow the river path back to Blanchland. There are several points to do a shorter walk.  Please note livestock in fields and one field with horses. DESCRIPTION:Cowshill – Middlehope Bank circular  Tue 16 June 2026  Going ahead as planned \n£1 \nImportant:  In the event of bad weather walks may be cancelled\, changed or rescheduled for later in the same week.  Please consult the weardale.uk website from 8am on the morning of the walk to confirm the walk is going ahead.  Note we are often able to update the website the evening before. \nWalk Route: \nWalk is from the Wear Valley Trail\, a series of circular walks taking in a section of the Wear Valley Walk. \nWe park at the Cowshill Inn carpark; heading west along the A689\, do not cross the bridge in front of the Cowshill Inn\, but turn right and immediately left to park by the Inn. \nWe then walk back south east along the metalled road parallel to the A689. Turn left along a farm road to Queensbury. Just past the house keep going straight across quite boggy country to the Sedling Vein path. At the top of Middlehope Bank turn right towards Ireshopeburn\, but turn left down a track and then across country towards East Blackdene. DESCRIPTION:Tuesday\, 30th June 2026  Going ahead as planned \nKillhope to St John’s Chapel linear walk \n  \nImportant:  In the event of bad weather walks may be cancelled\, changed or rescheduled for later in the same week.  Please consult the weardale.uk website from 8am on the morning of the walk to confirm the walk is going ahead.  Note we are often able to update the website the evening before. \nWalk Route:  The walk takes us on the Weardale Way extension from Killhope Wheel to St Johns Chapel. It’s a linear walk and will mean a car share from the car park at SJC cattle mart to Killhope Mine. Parking outside the entrance. There’s a steady but not severe climb\, on a gravel road at the beginning of the trail. This is followed by a generally downward journey\, across mainly untrodden green and rough grassland. While there are wooden walkways and gravel tracks on sections\, there’s some uneven ground and in one place a short muddy area. \nThe path offers no easy cut off points in the first 3.5 miles. However\, those wishing a shorter\, flatter walk could join the group\, approximately 2 hours later at Wearhead for the last 3.5 miles along the riverbank to SJC. The path from this point has easy access to the road and bus route. \nDate: Tuesday\, 30th June 2026 \nStart time: 10.00 am               Estimated finish: 14.00 \nStarting point: Meet at 1000 at St Johns Chapel Mart car park for car share to start at Killhope. \nLength: approx 7 miles \nHeight gain: 476 ft \nDescent: 1094 ft \nTime: 4 hours max. \nThe walk consists of footpaths\, gravel\, pasture and moorland.
