DESCRIPTION:Tuesday\, 7Th April 2026 – Going ahead as planned \nWestgate to Brotherlee and Daddry Shield Circular Route \n Important:  In the event of bad weather walks may be cancelled\, changed or rescheduled for later in the same week.  Please consult the weardale.uk website from 8am on the morning of the walk to confirm the walk is going ahead.  Note we are often able to update the website the evening before. \nWalk Route: Starting at the car park at Haswicks (Westgate) village Hall we walk along the River Wear to cross a small bridge at Brotherlee. From Brotherlee the route rises steadily to the open access land at Blackhill End at which point we find our way across open moorland to Swinehope Burn (NB that this stream has to be forded) and Curry’s Allotment. At this point we drop down to Daddry Shield and return along a footpath on the south side of the River Wear to Westgate and the car park. \nThere are two places where people can shorten the route back to Westgate. \nDate: Tuesday\, 7th April 2026 \nStart time: 10.00 am               Estimated finish: 13.30 \nStarting point: Car Park at Haswicks\, which is the old village hall for Westgate. \nDistance: 9.2 km (6 miles); \nTime: 3 hours 30 mins. \nHeight gain 229 m (750 feet) this is achieved in one climb. \nThe walk consists of footpaths\, pasture\, one stream to ford and moorland plus two climbs\, one which is steady and a short steep valley side. Instead of turning up the lane\, carry on into the unpaved parking area and beyond through a series of fields and farms to Eastgate. Cross the A689 and walk 1/4 mile back towards Stanhope before turning right to cross the railway. DESCRIPTION:Wolsingham  Sand Edge Tue 17 March 2026  Going ahead as planned \n£1 \nImportant:  In the event of bad weather walks may be cancelled\, changed or rescheduled for later in the same week.  Please consult the weardale.uk website from 8am on the morning of the walk to confirm the walk is going ahead.  Note we are often able to update the website the evening before. \nWalk Route: \nWe meet at Wolsingham Town Hall and head North up the paths towards Stony Carr\, Sandy Carr and Redmires Farm.  Entering the open access area we circle anticlockwise towards Houselop Beck then West towards Backstone Bank.  We take the route back to Wolsingham via Baal Hill Farm\, with the option of taking a detour into Baal Hill woods to see the Spring flowers.  The first part of the walk to the Open Access area is a steady climb.  There is a short cut just before Redmires Farm for anyone wishing to shorten the route to about 4.5 miles. \nDate:  Tuesday 17th March 2026 \nStart time: 10.00am                            Estimated finish time:  13:30p.m. \nDistance c. 7 miles           Height gain: 250m \nLeader: David     Contact details: 07485780121 \n  \nStarting Point:  Wolsingham Town Hall.  Please park responsibly.  St Annes and Demesne car parks now operate a modest parking fee.  The free car park at Wolsingham Railway station may not be accessible as the bridge over the Wear may still be fully closed for repair. DESCRIPTION:Weardale Tuesday Walks.  Going ahead as planned \nTuesday\, 3rd March 2026 \nFrosterley to Fine Burn and Currick. \n  \nImportant:  In the event of bad weather walks may be cancelled\, changed or rescheduled for later in the same week.  Please consult the weardale.uk website from 8am on the morning of the walk to confirm the walk is going ahead.  Note we are often able to update the website the evening before. \nWalk Route: Starting at the car park at Frosterley next to the village Hall we will walk along the footpath to the footbridge near the eastern end of Frosterley then across Broadwood Quarry to Harehope Farm.  The route goes past Fine House across to Fine Burn (a ford) to Pye Close.  From Pye Close the walk follows the Bollihope Burn to the car park at Bollihope followed by a climb to Carrick (a hill). ALLENSFORD COUNTRY PARK – SHOTLEY BRIDGE CIRCULAR WALK \nAn approx. 6.4 km circular walk. \nWalk Leader:  Kevin & Trudy Hollins \nMeeting point Allensford Country Park. DH8 9BA (077\,502 grid ref). Park in car park on left of Pemberton Road just after the junction with the A68 at Allensford. \nToilets. At country park \nCommencing: 10.00 \nApprox. 2.5 hours including stop for refreshments. \nHeight gain 160m \nLeaving Allensford Country park we follow the river Derwent east through the park which brings us to part of the Consett Heritage Trail where we pass an old Pump House**.
