DESCRIPTION:Wolsingham to Thornley circular via Greenwell Edge and Bradley Burn Tue 1 September 2026 \n£1 \nImportant:  In the event of bad weather walks may be cancelled\, changed or rescheduled for later in the same week.  Please consult the weardale.uk website from 8am on the morning of the walk to confirm the walk is going ahead.  Note we are often able to update the website the evening before. \nWalk Route: \nThis 8-mile walk provides a mix of woodland\, farmland and quiet country roads. There are two moderate 100m ascents\, one immediately on leaving Wolsingham and the second after Bradley Burn.  For anyone wishing to leave the walk\, there is a café and a bus stop with regular buses back to Wolsingham at the 3-mile point. \nThe route heads NE out of Wolsingham across fields and Redgate’s Bank before heading East on Greenwell Edge and down to Bradley Burn Café.  We then climb up to Thornley\, taking a tour of the village before heading West to Snipe Gate and back onto Greenwell Edge.  We drop down from the edge through some woodland before crossing fields back to Wolsingham. \nDogs are welcome but would need to be on a lead for much of the walk. \nDate:  Tuesday 1st September 2026 \nStart time: 10.00am                      Estimated finish time:  14:00p.m. \nDistance c. 7.5 miles                       Height gain: 300m \nLeader: David                                     Contact details: 07485780121 \n  \nStarting Point:  Wolsingham Town Hall.  Parking is available at Demesne and St Anne’s centre for a moderate charge and is free at Weardale Railway station.  Please park responsibly. \nOS Map: North Pennines OS Explorer OL31 NZ 077\,373 \nWalks cost £1 to cover costs and mountain rescue contribution. \nTerrain: Mix of woodland\, farmland and quiet country roads. \nToilets: Wolsingham town centre. \nEquipment for this walk: Walking boots and socks\, waterproofs\, small snack and drink.  Long trousers and shirt would help to reduce insect nuisance – horse fly etc) \nDogs: Dogs on a lead are permitted on this walk. \nAccompanied children under 16 and accompanied vulnerable adults are welcome. \nDisclaimer: Everyone taking part in any of our group walks does so at their own risk.  The group works on the same basis as a group of friends who go out walking together.  Walk organisers accept no risk for anyone attending any walk and will not be held responsible for any accident\, injury or loss occurring on a walk or in connection with travel to and from a walk.  None of our leaders is qualified or has first aid training but a basic first aid kit is available.  Participants must read the walk description carefully and assess whether the terrain\, distance and height gain of the walk are within their own and their guests’ capabilities and whether their equipment is suitable.
