Weardale Tuesday Walks.

Wolsingham – Thornley Gill Circular 18th November 2025

An approximately 7.5 miles, circular walk, from Wolsingham Town centre, out to Greenwell Edge, Thornley village, Thornley Gill and back via Bradley Mill and the River Wear.

Important:  In the event of bad weather walks may be cancelled, changed or rescheduled for later in the same week.  Please consult the weardale.uk website from 8am on the morning of the walk to confirm the walk is going ahead.  Note we are often able to update the website the evening before.

Meeting point: Wolsingham Town Hall. Parking is available at Demesne car park (parking charge) or Weardale Railway car park (free).

Walk commencing at 1000hrs.

Distance: approximately 7.5 miles

Duration: approximately 3.5 hours

Height gain: 180m.

Public toilets: Wolsingham town centre.

 

This walk passes along open fields, tracks, quiet roads and a riverside path. There are stiles and gates along the way.

The route is graded easy to moderate with two short but reasonably steep sections. The walk leaders will advise of alternative routes or a return back along the outward journey will take anyone who wishes to leave and go back to Wolsingham.

The route is suitable for dogs on leashes.

There will be a snack break during the walk.

Walks cost £1 to cover costs and mountain rescue contribution.

Accompanied children under 16 and accompanied vulnerable adults are welcome.
