2 September 2025 Wolsingham (Harthope)  This walk is going ahead as planned

Walk Route:

From Wolsingham Station car park we follow the line of the railway due west towards Frosterley.  At Holebeck House we head south over tracks and pasture, heading uphill towards the ridgeline and Harthope.  A short way east along the ridge, then south to enjoy extensive views over St John’s Hall and Hamsterley.  We cut back west to Black Allotment and then north/east along Rushy Lane to Chatterley and back downhill to Wolsingham.   There is a possibility to return to Wolsingham along the Weardale Way at Spence Hill and Towdy Potts thus reducing the distance to 3.5 miles and a moderate climb.

Starting Point:  We meet at Wolsingham Station (Weardale Railway) car park OS grid ref 077,368:  Turn left immediately after crossing the metal bridge over the Wear heading south out of Wolsingham towards Hamsterley.  This car park is free.  There are long term roadworks at the bridge.

Walks cost £1 to cover costs and mountain rescue contribution.

Terrain: Mainly track and meadow.

Toilets: The nearest toilets are in Wolsingham (St Annes or Angate).

Equipment for this walk: Walking boots and socks, waterproofs, small snack and drink.

Dogs: Dogs on a lead are permitted on this walk.

Accompanied children under 16 and accompanied vulnerable adults are welcome.
