Little and Great Eggles Hope:  Stanhope – Teesdale

1 July 2025

Important:  In the event of bad weather walks may be cancelled, changed or rescheduled for later in the same week.  This particular walk will be be revised if water levels in the little Eggleshope Beck make fording too difficult.  Please consult the weardale.uk website from 8am on the morning of the walk as we are often able to update the website to say if the walk is going ahead the evening before.

Walk Route: We descend, ford the Little Eggleshope Burn, climb a wire fence and scramble up to leat, after which the going is easy.  The leat takes us all the way to Wire Gill were we see extensive remains of lead mining.  We climb out of the gill on an easy lead miners’ road and make our way through the heather and eventually by gravel road back to our car park.
