Tunstall & Salters Gate – Weardale Tuesday walks -thid walk is going ahead as planned

Tunstall & Salters Gate

Walk Route: The walk starts at the Public Car Park at Tunstall Reservoir, Wolsingham, and heads steeply up towards Salters Gate.  Once on top of the ridge, we follow the bridleway due south to Thistlewood Lane and East to Baal Hill wood.  We will visit the ancient oak tree and then head North through easy pastures towards Backstone Bank.   There is a short but steep descent on a metalled road before crossing Tunstall reservoir dam and back alongside the reservoir to the car park.  The route is generally good underfoot and easy to moderate, although the initial climb (100m in height) is quite demanding.   The views throughout are excellent.
