Swinhope Horseshoe Walk – Weardale Tuesday Walks

31 August

Swinhope Horseshoe Walk

Important:  1.  In the event of bad weather this walk may be cancelled, changed or rescheduled for later in the same week so consult the weardale.uk website from 8am on the morning of the walk, before travelling.  If the weather forecast is very clear the website will be updated the night before the walk.

Important 2.   Wayfinding on Chapelfell is difficult in mist so if there is mist at the start we will choose an alternative walk or if the mist descends on the ascent we may have to abandon the walk.

Walk Route:  The first part of the walk is over rough, tussocky, pathless ground with a 900 feet steep ascent to Chapelfell followed by a probably damp route around peat hags to the trig point on Fendrith Hill (697m) for views down into Teesdale.  The first 500 metres of the descent is steep.  An invigorating walk with good views.
