Stanhope & Salters Gill – Weardale Tuesday Walks -this walk is going ahead as planned

Walk date: Tuesday October 3rd. 

Distance 6.2 miles.   Ascent total 725 feet

Route: 

Stanhope – Salters Gill – Snowhope Close – Horsley Head – Stanhope. 

Meet at the Stanhope Dales Centre car park. 

This walk takes us along the back road to Brotherlee, to Salters Gill and a short ascent. A steady uphill path west, leads us to Snape Gate and on to Snowhope Close. Turning north, we meet the track to Horsley Head and travel adjacent to Horsley Burn, back to the road and the return to Stanhope. 

David Towndrow and myself recced part of this walk, with a return on the Eastgate/Stanhope Weardale Way. That’s very overgrown in parts and not for this time of year. The tarmac is better.
