Stanhope Countryside Access Working Group (SCAWG) Training Event St John’s Chapel Tuesday 28th October – Information and Invitation

The  Stanhope Countryside Access Working Group (SCAWG) is a newly formed group of volunteers keen to assist in the upkeep of Rights of Way in Upper Weardale (beyond Wolsingham Parish where the Wolsingham Wayfarers undertake such a role).

The group would likely start with some limited tasks, and with training and resources, develop over the coming months.  The idea is for volunteers to join small work parties to walk the RoW, undertaking simple maintenance and reporting any more significant issues through the established mechanisms.   Recognising the differing level of knowledge and experience of volunteers, some training/mentoring would be required.  Individual volunteers would be encouraged to monitor their local area whilst DCC and NPNL would assist in the coordination of any audit/work on the recognised walking routes.

NPNL will host a training event on Tuesday 28th October at St John’s Chapel Town Hall. This event is open to individuals with a passion for maintaining local footpaths and may wish to join the SCAWG, although there is no obligation to do so.
