Penniepie and Blanchland – Weardale Tuesday Walks – this walk is going ahead as planned

Starting Point: Baybridge picnic area car park post code DH8 9UB
Start time:   10.00am  Approximate finish time:  1.00pm

 

Approximate Walk length: 6 miles

Toilets:  There are public toilets in Blanchland and Rookhope

Route:Leaving the car park at Baybridge we turn left and walk a short way up the steep hill towards Penniepie before we join the footpath over fields towards Shildon passing by Cote House Farm. Walking through Shildon we climb up through woodland and then over fields to Cowbyers with lovely views over Derwent Reservoir. Crossing the road we pick up the footpath leading down to the edge of the reservoir before following the river path back towards Blanchland and then onto baybridge.

Equipment for this walk: walking boots and socks, waterproofs, small snack and drink, walking poles or stick.

Dogs are permitted on this walk, but must be under strict control as we will be crossing farmland .

Accompanied children under 16 and accompanied vulnerable adults are welcome

Walks cost £1 to cover mountain rescue contribution etc
