Meeting at Frosterley Station car park, we cross the road bridge to the south bank of the Wear, turning left to pass Bridge End Farm to pick up the footpath along the edge of Bishopley Quarry, leading across a field to Wise Eel Bridge. Travelling across a meadow and via Harehope Gill Farm we pass Allotment House, onto the open moor and the Elephant Trees, before returning via West Biggins Farm and the riverside footpath back to the car park.
The length of the walk is just over 6 mile and the ascent 860 feet. While the meadow grass was short last weekend, it’s growing. Apart from the meadows, we’ll be walking over well made footpaths. There are a number of styles and gates.
With a break for a snack, I’d allow a time of 3 hours 15 minutes for the walk. ie 10.00a to 1.15pmThere are a couple of break off places, for those not wishing to take the full walk. I would also suggest waterproofs as part of the kit.
