Edmundbyers circular walk 21st October 2025 – Walk going ahead as planned

Important:  In the event of bad weather walks may be cancelled, changed or rescheduled for later in the same week.  Please consult the weardale.uk website from 8am on the morning of the walk as we are often able to update the website to say if the walk is going ahead the evening before.

Walk Route: Edmundbyers circular walk

Walk route:  From The Derwent Arms Inn, Edmundbyers we walk west through the village and join the way of light trail for a short while before taking a left turn south wards heading down past Swan dale cottage, crossing Burnhope Burn at which point we cross over the road ** at this point the road can be followed back to Edbundbyers for a shorter walk**, after crossing the road we head steadily upwards onto Muggleswick  Common passing Lamb Shield Farm before dropping  down back to Edmundbyers from the east side.

Walking mostly on tracks but going over a couple of fields.

Distance c. 5 miles.  Height gain: approx. 100m

Walks cost £1 to cover costs and mountain rescue contribution.

Terrain: Country lane, moorland, grass fields, and old railway track.

Toilets: Edmundbyers.

Equipment for this walk: Walking boots and socks, waterproofs, small snack and drink.  Walking poles may be helpful.

Dogs: Dogs on a lead are permitted on this walk.

Accompanied children under 16 and accompanied vulnerable adults are welcome.
