Eastgate and the Weardale Way – Weardale Tuesday Walks -this walk is going ahead as planned

2 April

Meet at the Durham Dales Centre in Stanhope.
We will walk east through the town towards Greenfoot, before ascending the fields at Guys Close and follow a footpath to Eastgate. At Eastgate we will take the road to Stanhope and turn left towards Haggs Bridge. At that point we pick up the Weardale Way and head east towards Stanhope. At the Stone Bridge Stanhope the walk takes us past Stanhope Showfield, crossing the River Wear on the footbridge and returning to the Dales Centre.
Walk starts:  10.00am  Est finish time:  1pm
Length: 6.1 miles
Ascent/descent: 474 feet

Walk leader:  Peter

Toilets:  There are public toilets in the Dales Centre

Terrain: Pavement, tarmac, rough field tracks.

Equipment: Good walking boots, waterproofs, hat, sticks if needed, packed lunch, water/drinks.
Cut off points. There are three early returns to the road on the outward journey and a walk back to Stanhope on the road.  Or chance flagging the 101 bus down. There is a bus stop at Eastgate. We could walk the route in reverse to give a reasonably flat walk to Eastgate and the opportunity to catch the bus, before continuing to Stanhope. We can discuss this on the day.

Dogs are permitted on this walk, but must be under strict control as we will be crossing farmland .

Accompanied children under 16 and accompanied vulnerable adults are welcome
