Cow Green & Widdy Bank – Weardale Tuesday Walks

Cow Green and Widdy Bank


Important:  In the event of bad weather walks may be cancelled, changed or rescheduled for a later date so consult the weardale.uk website from 8am on the morning of the walk.  (We are often able to update the website to say if the walk is going ahead the evening before).

Starting Point: Cow Green Reservoir car park – OS Ref: NY 810 308

OS Map: North Pennines – OL31

Walk Route: From the carpark at Cow Green Reservoir we walk back along the road then turn south to Widdy Bank Farm, and on past Holmwath and Falcon Clints before climbing a path near Cauldron Spout and north along the shore of Cow Green Reservoir back to our start.

Start time: 10.00am.                   Estimated finish time:  3:00p.m.

A high altitude walk of c. 15 km or 10 miles               Height gain: 200 meters.

Walks cost £1 to cover mountain rescue contribution.  Donations for car parking are requested.

Terrain: roads and good paths for much of the way, but also rough boulders to cross and a steep climb at Cauldron Spout.

Basic toilet are available at the car park.
Equipment for this walk: walking boots and socks, waterproofs, full pack lunch and sufficient drink for a long walk.  Walking poles or a stick will be useful for crossing the boulders.

Dogs are welcome on this walk, but must be under strict control.

Accompanied children under 16 and accompanied vulnerable adults are welcome.
