Bolts Law and the former mining village of Ramshaw.                          

Important:  In the event of bad weather walks may be cancelled or rescheduled for later in the same week so consult the www.weardale.uk website from 8am on the morning of the walk, before travelling.

Walk Route:  From Packlet’s Gate we walk over rough tracks and paths to the Bolts Law trig point for views over Northumberland.  On slightly better paths we explore the remains of  the chimneys, mines, mine reservoirs, smelter and the amazing flues of the former lead mining village of Ramshaw.

Easy walk, 5 .5 miles, 650 feet of ascent.

Starting Point:  Packlet’s Gate which is at a cattle grid at the high point of the Rookhope/Blanchland road.  From Rookhope take the Allenheads road and turn right after 0.75 miles towards Blanchland, just after a cattle grid.  Climb steadily for about two miles to the top cattle grid at the watershed.  There is parking on either side of the cattle grid.

Walks cost £1 to cover costs.

Toilets:  There are public toilets in Rookhope between the shop and the pub.

Equipment for this walk:  Walking boots and socks, waterproofs, small snack and drink, walking poles or stick, sun hat.

Accompanied children under 16 and accompanied vulnerable adults are welcome on this walk.

Dogs:  Dogs on a short lead are welcome on this walk.
