Weardale Tuesday Walkers
WESTGATE AND SWINHOPE BURN

Walk Route: The walk follows an attractive section of the River Wear from Westgate then climbs up to cross the Swinhope Burn near New Close with excellent views of Upper Weardale.

Starting Point: The parking area in Westgate, opposite the caravan site, a pavement area converted to parking.

Terrain: Riverside path, then tracks and rough pasture
Toilets: There are no public toilets in Westgate.
Equipment for this walk: Walking boots and socks, waterproofs, small snack and drink, walking poles or stick, brimmed hat for sun protection.:
Accompanied children under 16 and accompanied vulnerable adults are welcome
Hazards: The descent to the Swinhope Burn is very steep and the crossing of the burn can be tricky after heavy rain.
