Weardale Tuesday Walkers
Steward Shield and the Stanhope Burn

Walk Route: From Parkhead we take the old Rookhope to Sunderland railway path and then drop down to a beautiful stretch of the Stanhope Burn. The return is on the fine Velvet Path and the Crawley Engine track.

Starting Point: Parkhead Station, postcode DL13 2ES. From the Grey Bull at the west end of Stanhope take the B6278 towards Edmundbyers through Crawleyside Bank. About a mile after the cattle grid Parkhead Station is signed on the left of the road and there is an old red mining railway truck on the right to mark the entrance.

Toilets: There are toilets for café customers at Parkhead (if open) or there are public toilets at the Durham Dales centre in Stanhope.
Equipment for this walk: Walking boots and socks, waterproofs, small snack and drink, walking poles or stick, hat, gloves and scarf.
Accompanied children under 16 and accompanied vulnerable adults are welcome on this walk.
Dogs: Dogs on a short lead are welcome on this walk.
Hazards: We cross two small sikes for which a stick/pole would be useful.
